If you want to edit your pdf output, you *need* this book.

This voluminous volume gives you a week's worth of practice exercises, but it's also easy to skim the exercises for what you specifically need and tailor it to your own docs.

I can honestly say that without this book, I would have been completely lost as to how to format my pdf output. Had this book not been available, I would have either spent weeks scouring the internet for relevant information or would have had to hire someone to make a pdf template. So no how you look at it, owning this book is going to save you time and/or money.

A must have and also a good read. White does a fantastic job of keeping it simple and only giving you the information you need to know to get the task at hand done. I couldn't recommend this more highly.

Essential guide for care and feeding of PDF transforms

DITA for Print starts at the beginning, explaining the file structure of the millions (OK hundreds) of files used in the DITA Open Toolkit and explains how to incrementally make changes to a plugin to create PDFs that you can use and be proud of by the end of the book - all without a programming background. Whenever my output isn't quite right I pull out this book and search for the topic and usually find something related to what I am trying to do, and even if it doesn't help me with the exact problem I'm having, it gives me start for where to debug my issues.

Practical and clear instructions (and best practices) on many things that would take far longer to figure out by digging through websites and dita-users email list posts. I have voluminous notes on working with the DITA Open Toolkit that I will refer to far less now that I have this book.

disappointing work by a great author

I had read Abraham Cahan's "the rise of David Levinsky" and loved it. Cahan wrote relatively few novels. So when I discovered this novel by Cahan I bought it. If you want to be extraordinarily impressed by his work buy Levinsky, Not this novel.

A Murder, A Wedding and a Kidnapping - it has it all!

Family weddings scary right?!! But for Lacey, more so - her family is "The Family" of St Paul's Italian Mafia. And she is to attend cousin Vivian's wedding to the boring banker.

This book has it all, there's a wedding - or is there? A murder - or was there? A kidnapping - or was it staged?

One of their own is murdered and Lacey is on assignment from the Godfather - her grandfather - to find out who did it. Meg, the ex cop come bar owner, Lacey's bestie is her side kick once again. While they are trying to solve the murder, all crazy things happen. Cousin Clay has more toys to play with, and could one of them be Meg? Vivian's new BFF, the maid of honor, goes missing. There's a new kid in town claiming to know more than he should.

This series is a hoot! The banter between Lacey and Meg is hilarious. I can't help imagining Zooey Deschanel and Amy Schumer playing these roles. I love how Lacey's mind works even with all that sugar, she still manages to piece things together. And the relationship with her and Anthony is heating up nicely! I got the warm and fuzzies when Lacey got to be close to her grandfather for a special dance and she got to enjoy time with her "Family".

Just Alright

The author references this character is meant to be similar to Stephanie Plum (from Janet Ivanovich). In some ways that is true. It's frustrating her character doesn't grow or improve her skills through the series, similar to Stephanie Plum. I think we all agree it's good to see a down on their luck female character use their brains to solve mysteries. With the author specifically comparing this character to Stephanie, it just seems like she is repeating the story. Same love triangle, same struggles with physical ineptitude, etc... Personally, I love reading series that involve strong women. But let this character grow! And, stop comparing her to Stephanie! Allow Lacey to be her own character!

More Lacey, Meg, and Clay!

Just when I think I can’t love Lacey any more, this book comes along. She gets another assignment from Carlos, and we get more Meg and Clay!
This book picks up a few weeks after the Sprinkled, and there is some hot progression with Anthony, lots of laughs, and a fun mystery. I wasn’t able to put it down once I started reading it. I can’t wait until the next installment to see if more happens with Anthony!

Really good story read well

My kids and I had listened to this borrowed from our local library it's such a good story, and read so well, that I purchased it for my dad who knows all things 'Peter Pan'...or so he thought! This prequel (one of a trilogy) is great! Good read (listen) on its own. And it also sets up and exai s the Peter Pan we know

Simon Gunn is Reader in History in the School of Cultural Studies at Leeds Metropolitan University.

About the Author
Simon Gunn is Reader in History in the School of Cultural Studies at Leeds Metropolitan University. He is the author of The Public Culture of the Victorian Middle Class and was historical adviser to the highly praised BBC2 series, Middle Classes, from which he also co-authored the book, published by Cassell, 2002. He has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels on the relationship between history and cultural theory, and has published articles on the ideas of theorists including Walter Benjamin, Pierre Bourdieu and Michel Foucault.

Great intro

This book works very well as a guide through the different approaches to history which have been fleshed out over the last couple decades. Gunn provides insight into many of the most influential theorists in a very able synthesis. In places he is, self admittedly, partisan and in others he, in my opinion, short changes some very interesting ideas. However, overall the work is a great touchstone for contemporary theoretical debates within history (or at least the attempts at such a debate). I would caveat this endorsement, though, with the advice that to actually make this book useful, one must follow up on it and go back to the original works. Luckily, I felt spurred on by Gunn's engaging treatment of these complicated topics to do exactly that. In this sense, it acts as the best introductory reference guide to students interested in the theories and philosophies of history that I've run across.
