He is a member of the Nat’l Soc. of Professional Engineers, ASME, the Construction Specifications Institute, the American Design Drafting Assoc., ASHRAE, and SME. He holds a BSME and MSCE from Columbia Pacific University and is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin, California and Canada. Great Mechanical Engineering guide!

What a book! It is so easy to read and understand. I wish this book was around when I was going for my BSME. It is a great reference book that all designers should have on their shelves.

Inventor's Smorgasbord

I am a farmer who enjoys making machinery. I design my contraptions on paper, then using a CAD program to refine the designs. Having no training in engineering I am frequently using references such as "Machinery's Handbook" and "Moving The Earth" and "Mark's Standard handbook of Mechanical Engineering" and others.

I have to say, that Parmley's book is a treasure trove of information, with heaps of unusual ideas for common compnents such as O-rings, rubber balls, pipe connections, washers and many others, plus hard information about more complex components such as gearboxes, cams, governors etc etc.

This is a big book, with many pages (numbering within each section only), lovely clear diagrams, and enough but not too many tables, formulae and specifications. It can be browsed cover to cover, (as I am doing for the 2nd or 3rd time), open a page at random and be fascinated, or look up specific topics in the excellent index.

I have read the other reviews on this book, and clearly it is a valuable rescource to professionals. I can tell you that it is also a fantastic mine of information to the interested amateur.

Wealth of information but poor quality book.

The Illustrated Sourcebook of Mechanical Components has a great amount of information that is nearly invaluble for practicing engineers. It is a staple of my library and I turn to it first when I need ideas on a new design. However, the quality of the book construction itself is extremely poor. The pages are not sewn in signatures, but are instead glue-backed single sheets as you would see in a perfect bound paperback. Unlike a paperback though, the spine is hollow, so there is no support for the text block. Intended as a reference book, the construction is more suited to a mass-market romance novel, and will not stand up to the rigors of the intended usage. Even with careful use, I've had pages fall out and the text block separate in the middle. For $130, McGraw-Hill should be ashamed. I will not be buying any reference book from them without being able to see it in person first.

Wow! Interesting tale

I picked this book up after reading the description and I was instantly captivated by the storyline. Starting in the Carpathian Mountains during the winter of 1875, "Europe Has Fallen" follows the exploits of a unit of British Royal Engineers working with their Austrian allies as they are confronted by a mysterious and evil army made up of the stuff from nightmares. The action is fierce, the heroes brave and though they seem stiff and reserved at first, the characters become well-developed as the story flows along. As a history buff, I find a lot of the details fascinating and the thought of facing an army of monsters armed with a single shot Martini-Henry rifle is terrifying.

This book features an ensemble of British, Austrian, and Prussian soldiers who are trying to do their duty while facing impossible odds, but of these, Captain Heyward becomes the central protagonist as the fighting continues. His flashbacks to his happy family and adoring wife are real tearjerkers as he prepares himself to face an army of flesh eaters, giant wolves and other monsters too terrible to mention.

This book is the first in what I suspect will be a very successful series. I can't wait for the next book to arrive.

This is a great book, it has zombies, demons and animals from hell all set in the 1870's. Follow a group of British engineers fighting across Europe. Cant wait for the next book

Fast paced

The characters are mostly military as this is an epic good versus evil war. The action is quick and easy to follow. I liked the book. The author is quite talented.

Professor Dr. Reinhard Brückner arbeitet seit 1998 am Institut für Organische Chemie und Biochemie der Universität Freiburg. I'm not too far in yet but it seems like good reading. It's referencing back to previous points forcing use of learned knowledge as I go forward.

I did find an error on page 27 where the equation was not properly balanced but given the depth of information in the text, I can forgive minor errors.

An Improved Edition Needed

I would recommend waiting for a revised edition of this book if you are interested in the material covered by Bruckner.

This 1st edition unfortunately contained a large number of typographical errors in the text and in the figures. While some of these errors were minor and had little effect on the overall meaning, other printing mistakes caused significant confusion for the students, including misnamed reagents and figures with mislabeled footnotes. This led to frustration for those trying to understand the material and caused students to lose confidence in the text; the book was consequently difficult to use as a teaching resource.

Several students also commented that some of the reaction mechanism figures were hard to follow. The criss-crossing of reaction arrows and organization of structures (for example, Fig. 2.37 and Fig. 6.34) were more distracting than they were clear. A left to right, top to bottom organization of schemes seems to make more sense than ones that split into multiple pathways that go in various directions and cross other arrows or pathways that may or may not be related.

The text did cover many good topics and models for understanding organic reactions, and used limited coloring (red arrows and text) to highlight mechanisms in a simple and clear manner. However, an edition that addresses the typographical mistakes would probably be better received.

Great Reference for Organic Chemistry Mechanisms

Ever get confused as to what goes where? When? And why? This book helps to answer some of those questions and leads to deeper understanding of mechanisms if that is what you need to succeed. Some of us need a more in-depth explanation, and that is what this book does. As a stand-alone text, I would caution against using it exclusively if you are not an advanced student. For reference, the beginning organic chemistry student may find it helpful if you do a lot of mechanisms or if you are like me and need to know what the whole picture looks like.

About the Author
Apostle Leslie D. Richardson is the founding pastor of My Father’s House International Christian Discipleship Center. He and his wife, Pastor Lily R. Richardson, are the vision-bearers of this awesome ministry located in Denver, Colorado. Pastor Richardson is the third child of four children born to Deacon O.J. and Pastor Geraldine Richardson. His parents (and late grandmother) are in the ministry, making Pastor Richardson a third-generation preacher of the Gospel. Pastor Richardson is a native of Lansing, Michigan, where he received his formal education. He studied Architectural Drafting at the Lansing Community Design Center, received his biblical training under Bishop Earl O. Holiman (Pastor of Bethsaida Temple Christian Center in Denver, Colorado), and additional training at the Marilyn Hickey Bible College. Pastor Richardson’s first pastoral assignment was as acting pastor at the Original Church of God, located at 72nd Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. After commuting between Denver and Chicago for ministry for over 2½ years, the Lord led to him to launch the ministry of My Father’s House in Denver. After much prayer and fasting, and counseling from his pastor and mentor, Bishop Holiman, Pastor Richardson obeyed the mandate. His two sons, Leslie II and Marcus, his sister Diane, and a few others, were the initial members of My Father’s House. With the call of God on his life, and nothing but the Word of God, the Lord led him to launch the ministry of My Father’s House in Denver, Colorado. Pastor Richardson began evangelizing the Denver community with his “Crying In The Wilderness” radio ministry—and the Lord added to the Church such as should be saved. Today he is still “Crying in the Wilderness” on radio, television, and on the Internet. The Lord has given Pastor Richardson the vision to disciple God’s people, a gift to unlock the mysteries contained in God’s Holy Word, and an anointed, apostolic, and prophetic ministry. The Richardsons are the thankful parents of four beautiful children: Leslie II, Marcus, Jasmine, and Joshua. And they have four grandchildren: Leslie III, Laila, Adriel, and Mya.

In todays wars the countries and people also are not ready to rule and lack the training and experience.
Gordimer was a wonderful writer and wrote many stories about her native country.
